8034 Gopak of the Jolly Lads

Modest Mussorgsky

arranged for Brass Nonet (3 trumpets, 2 horns, 3 trombones, tuba)

by Roger Harvey

Price: £20.00

Difficulty: Medium

Programme note:
Mussorgsky worked on his opera The Fair of Sorochintsky during the 1870s but at his death in 1881 it was unfinished and unperformed. However, he reused some of the music in other works such as Night on a Bare Mountain. It was based on a story by Gogol from his Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka collection of Ukranian tales and the Gopak appears at the end of the opera as a wedding celebration dance.

Performance note:

Play lightly and rhythmically throughout. Ensure that when the melodic line is passed from voice to voice each part has equal prominance. First trumpet may use a smaller trumpet, especially for the final bars.
