8006 – Symphony

J. Staden (1581 – 1634)

Arranged by Roger Harvey

(3trpts, 3trbs, tuba)

Difficulty: Medium

Price: £20.00

Programme notes:

Johann Staden was the leading organist and composer of his time in the Nurenburg district of Germany. Although his first official appointment was as court organiser in Bayreuth the majority of his working life was spent as organist at St Sebold in Nurenberg, the most influential musical post of the city.

He published over 200 vocal pieces, most of them of a sacred nature and several collections of instrumental pieces. This Symphony is typical of the style, which established a school of instrumental composition in Nurenburg.

Performance notes:

Play in a majestic style but be careful not to overdo the dynamics. Keep the faster moving motives lightly articulated.
