5038 - Entry of the Gladiators

julius Fucik

Arranged by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: medium

Price: £20.00

Programme notes:
Julius Fucik was a Czech composer who studied with Dvorak at the Prague Conservatory. He worked as an orchestral player and bandmaster and composed about 300 dances marches and overtures. He is perhaps the best example from amongst the numerous composers remembered for one popular work at the expense of the rest of their output. For though his name and the other 299 of his works are relatively obscure, The Entry of the Gladiators is almost universally recognised as music for a grand parade.

Performance note:
The tempo of this march should not be too fast, rather held back and pompous in style. The melody in the trio should be very legato while the accompaniment should be very light and crisp. Observe the staccato very carefully at D.
