5034 – Summertime

George Gershwin

Arranged by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: Medium

Price: £20.00

Programme notes:
Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess contains numerous wonderful songs that have become standards of the light music repertoire. Summertime is sung as a lullaby by a poor mother dreaming of better times.

Performance notes:
Let it swing gently at not too slow a tempo. The solo line can be played with some rubato.
In the second verse the trumpet melody can also be a bit free but the main line is the improvised horn obligato so do not let it become too obvious.
The rhythm of the tuba line can be slightly varied if desired.
