5030 - O Mio Babbino Caro

from Gianni Schicci

G. Puccini

Arranged by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: Medium

Price: £20.00

Programme notes:

Gianni Schicchi is a short comic opera written in 1918. Buoso Donati has died and left his relatives out of his will. They attempt to engage the rogueish Gianni Schicchi to pose as an old man and to dictate a new will from, as it were, his deathbed. But first he has to be persauded by his daughter, Lauretta, engaged to Donati's nephew to put old grievances behind him. She pleads in this song to be allowed to marry or she will drown herself. Schicchi agrees to do as they ask but to the dismay of the relatives he leaves everything to himself.

Performance notes:

Ensure that the passage work in the trombone and horn parts is gently played, accurate and dolce but unobtrusive. The solo player can indulge in a little tasteful rubato on the top notes.
