Programme notes:

A fanfare, fllowed by a central section of a scherzando, a misty rhapsody and a final section where the original hymn appears as a full choral.

Performance notes:

The opening should be played with a flourish but without harshness. The whole of the central section is quiet and gently subdued and even the finale starts in a controlled dynamic with the choral gradually growing in intensity towards the end.
