10136- Sugar-Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker

P. I.Tchaikowsky

arranged for 10-piece brass ensemble by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: Medium Difficult

Price: £20.00

Programme note:

The Nutcracker is probably the most popular of a number of highly colourful ballets by Tchaikowsky. It was written in 1892 and tells a fantastic story of Christmas make-believe. The plot provides ample inspiration for Tchaikowsy’s melodic facility and broad instrumental palette. The solo dance for the sugar-Plum Fairy is one of the most iconic moments featuring the celeste in the original orchectration but here replaced by muted trumpets. Performance note: Keep it very leggiero throughout. The tuba and horn, unmuted should stand out as different tone colours but should match in dynamic. The Presto is optional; continue to play as lightly as possible especially in the sustained trumpet notes. Avoid the temptation to cresendo towards the end; the final chord should be a surprise.
