10057 – In Dulci Jubilo

14th Century German

Arranged by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: Medium

Price: £22.50

Programme notes:
The original lyrics, a macaronic alternation of Medieval German and Latin, are thought to have been written by the German mystic Heinrich Seuse circa 1328. According to legend, he heard angels singing these words and joined them in a dance of worship.

Performance notes:
This version has an optional introduction which provides a modulation from G to F and so allows it to be placed after a prelude of the Bach version (BW10001).
The verse is harmonised from the version by John Stainer and is intended as a hymn accompaniment. The 1st trumpet has a descant which may be used in one verse. Other parts are all doubled as marked and so can be shared for practical or stylistic reasons.
The final verse is offered as an alternative ending. If this is used the choir and congregation should sing in unison.
Trumpet 1 should play on an E flat or piccolo trumpet to get a light and not too obtrusive a sound.
