10039 – Let the Bright Seraphim from Samson

G.F. Handel (1685-1759)

Arranged by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: Easy

Price: £20

Programme notes:

Handel finished the first version of the Oratorio Samson on October 29th 1741. He had just finished writing Messiah for his visit to Dublin where it was to be performed for charity. It is probable that he also intended Samson for performance there but it was not fully performed until he returned from his stay in Dublin. In fact its great success in London probably prevented his return to Ireland as intended.

Performance notes:

The original setting of this music is for Soprano solo, solo trumpet and strings. The soprano part may be performed in this arrangement by a singer or may be given to a second solo trumpet.

The style of the music requires a lively approach but the dynamics should be restrained and the articulation sempre leggiero. The trio should be more sostenuto and cantabile.
