Roger Harvey (b1949)

Arranged by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: Easy

Price: £20

Programme notes:

To celebrate their 125th anniversary, the German chemicals company, BASF, planned a number of festival events at their factory headquarters in Ludwigsburg. London brass had been guests on their subscription series of concerts on several occasions are were invited to provide the opening concert of the festivities. To begin the whole proceedings a fanfare was required so Roger Harvey, the Musical Director and trombonist of the ensemble produced this sort work based on the letters of the company name using the German terminology: Bb, Ab, F

Performance notes:

Make sure that all notes are properly articulated, particularly the longer notes after semi-quavers. The bass line in trb4/tuba should be very clearly larked with punctuating the music in the upper voices. The quaver movement in bars 16-17 should be very pointed even in the lower dynamic. At bar 18 try to make a well matched and clean up to allow the 1st trumpet part to carry easily without forcing. The minims in 19 and 20 should be well marked but slightly shaped away to allow the moving parts to be clearly heard. Also in 21leave the crescendo till late to avoid obscuring the movement in that bar.
