10009 – Chanson de Matin

Edward Elgar (1857-1934)

Arranged by Roger Harvey

Difficulty: Medium (trb Hard)

Price: £22.50

Programme notes:

Although Elgar played the trombone as an amateur and wrote some wonderful parts for it in his orchestra music, he virtually ignored it as a solo instrument.

Chanson de Matin is one of his favourite salon pieces which he arranged for numerous combinations. He would probably approve, therefore, of this transcription for trombone and brass.

Performance notes:

Avoid overbalancing the soloist at all times. When the accompaniment is full, do not force him/her to over blow.

Keep the style expressively cantabile but make the articulation clearly and lightly.
